High Tournaments Application UI/UX Design Case Study
High Tournaments is a mobile esports platform that automates & monetizes tournaments for Content Creators, streamers, Esports Organizations & Universities. Gamers can seamlessly connect, compete and earn while playing their favorite games on a daily basis. Available on iOS and Android.
Project Overview
High Tournaments is a start up which was founded in 2019. It is a mobile application which is available on Play Store and App Store. They were in need of an automated mobile application that could help gamers solve the problem of monetizing their gaming talent and could organize their own tournaments without any hassles.
After understanding the problems and requirements of the application from the founders of the start up, I had done deep research on their competitors and also understood the requirements of various gamers who were basically going to be the users of the application. After various meetings and hours of smart work, I was successfully able to create/design a complete mobile application which met the user's (Gamer's) needs. Today, High Tournaments has over 500,000+ users and have successfully given out up to Rs 10,00,000 in Prizepool.
Main Role: Redesigning the application, Research, User Flow, Wireframing / Sketching, Visual Interface Design
Target Audience: Mobile Gamers | My Role: Ideation, UI and UX Design.
The Problem(s):
- Lack of a trusted platform for gamers and organizers.
- Gamers were unable to monetize their gaming talent.
- Lack of Communication between gamers.
- Lack of a centralized platform that allows gamers to tier up in the industry.
- Organizers use 3rd party applications such as WhatsApp, Discord, Facebook to communicate and organize tournaments. This system is decentralized and causes confusion.
- Registrations, Confirmations, Distribution of Credentials and Distribution of Prize pools were all done Manually.
- Lack of a centralized and automated platform for an industry that still relies on manual labour
The Goal(s):
Design the app in a simple and centralized way to enhance usability for gamers and organizers, ensure trustable and straightforward payment distribution, and improve communication among gamers.
Design Process:
Research : Research was an important part of the whole process of designing the High Tournaments application. I started with doing deep study about their competitors to gain some insights about the gaming industry and how exactly things work. Then, with the help of the founders, we gathered a group of gamers on a zoom call to understand their problems while playing and organizing games within the market, these gamers where professional gamers who play and compete in various mobile game competitions.
Competitor Analysis : Analysis of various competitors like Indian Gaming League, Game.tv, Gamerji etc to get an idea of their apps and websites
References : Since this was my first UI/UX Project, I went through a lot of different apps to see how the designs of those apps were and what I can do different with the High Tournaments App. I brainstormed while searching for references and had a rough idea of how the app should visually look like.
Making the user flow : Sketched the entire Application flow of the user from start to finish.
Developing Wireframes : After having a rough idea in my mind, I then started sketching those designs on paper to have a better idea of what the application will look like. I then sent those wireframes to the founders to discuss the app further.
